Wing Commander Stuart Iles BEd Hons RAFVR(T)
As Officer Commanding, Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing, Air Training Corps I welcome you to our website. If this is your first visit (and you are not already involved in the Air Cadet Organisation) I hope you will find something to inspire you to join us either as a cadet or as a member of staff. Please do not hesitate to contact our Wing Headquarters if you need any further information.
The Wing has approximately 1200 cadets (aged 13 to 20) attending 27 Units (Squadrons and Detached Flights) located throughout Warwickshire & Birmingham. All units are staffed by volunteer adults who freely give their time to provide all the activities highlighted on this website and in those linked to it.
I am very privileged to command a Wing with so many enthusiastic, committed and dedicated adult staff who are the backbone to its success. Our cadets inspire all of us with their enthusiasm, sense of purpose and ambition. With such positive energy from staff and cadets it is a pleasure and an honour to hold the position of Wing Commander.
To ensure that the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO) continues to flourish and to remain true to the ideals laid down in its charter, particularly by the provision of adequate aviation and other challenging activities to enable it to attract and retain membership and thereby provide example and leadership for the country’s youth.
The mission of Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing is to sustain a vibrant and effective ACO in an ever-changing society supported by a trained and committed staff. We shall do this by providing, through our units, opportunities for young people aged 13-20 years to take part in a wide range of activities such as Flying, Gliding, Adventure Training, Sport, Camps, Courses, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Citizenship Training and Aviation Studies.
I hope you enjoy your visit to our Wing Website, which will develop over the coming months and years, and that we have provided you with some useful information and that you will come back frequently.
