My name is Ben Simpson and I am a member of the Air Training Corp, at our local squadron 198 Hinckley.
Our squadron is part of Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing which, in turn, is part of the Central and East Region. The Air Training Corps offers lots of different activities for young people including, flying, gliding sports shooting and Duke of Edinburgh to name but a few.
One of the sports activities is athletics, where you are able to complete in all the different track and field events.
I recently completed in the Wing athletics competition, held at the Solihull Sports Centre, and it was here that I represented my Squadron at Wing level, competing against the other Squadrons in my Wing. Here I narrowly missed out on a medal in both 100m sprint and the discus events, however I was successful in winning a silver medal for the squadron in the 200m sprint.
Following this success I was selected to represent Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing in the Regional competition held at Saffron Lane Sports Stadium in Leicester, here I also won a silver but for 4x100m relay.
Both of my silver medals were presented to me by my Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Chris Parry, at my squadron. It was fantastic and an honour to represent both my Squadron and Wing, and to get medals was even better, something that I can hope to improve on for next year.
