My first Air Cadet Camp at RAF Lossiemouth

On my first camp with the Air Cadets, me and 5 other cadets from our squadron went to RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland for annual camp, accompanied by 25 other cadets from the Warwickshire & Birmingham wing on the 21 st to the 28 th July.

The 11 hours trip to north Scotland wasn’t the best coach drive I’ve been on, but when we got there it was worth it.

In this jam-packed week I had loads of new experiences, I got a ‘first hand look’ at what life in the RAF is all about, it was also a great chance to bond with other people that I met on camp. These are some of the activates we got up to on this week:

  • A flight in the sea king search & rescue helicopter witch was AMAZING!
  • We had shooting competition (I got 4 th best shot! And Baker got 1 st).
  • A drill competition.
  • We also went on the high ropes, witch is where we where in a group of four and we have to climb up a high unstable pole and stand at the top until all four of your group was on the tiny platform that could barely fit our feat on, then we all leant back to make a star shape only connected by our hands and then absale down to the ground, after that in a group of four again we had to climb to the top of a unstable ladder witch we could not just climb we had to stand on each other with out falling off or getting tangled to reach the next step.
  • We where also given a full tour of the Tornado GR4s and the Tornado GR4 Operational Conversion Unit.
  • As well as all of these we visited the dog section where we saw the dogs in action searching for explosives, the fire section where we got a trip in the fire engines, also we took a shot trip to RAF kinloss to go swimming and take a tour of the nimrods.

After all of this to make the week complete we had a night of bowling followed by paper plate awards.
